I'm not saying EU4 has the best or only ideas to make geography matter in wars, but it's a million times better than what CK3 has now. It doesn't really matter where you are in CK3, and you can take whatever territory you want and know that if you ever need to defend it you can always just raise your entire army there. The result is EU4 wars have choke points and multiple fronts, while CK3 wars are just zerg rushing the enemy capital. Compare it to EU4 where your troops are always raised so you have to think about where they need to be for wars and revolts, you have to have enough transport ships to move your troops over water and you have to worry about them being sunk by your enemy, and zone of control makes it impossible to walk past forts without taking them first. In CK3 you can raise all of your troops wherever you want at any time, transport them without a navy with your enemy not able to do nothing about it, and you can almost always avoid or just ignore the attrition from walking through hostile territory. There's really nothing right with warfare right now, but one of the biggest problems that sticks out to me is that geography doesn't matter at all. This is an improvement as both the players and AI would transport fewer troops by water less regularly due to high cost, necessitating the requirement of investment to increase the amount of troops you are able to transport cheaply (relative to the mercenary cost). While if you do not have access to provinces adjacent to water or simply do not want to spend money on creating naval infrastructure, everyone else would rely on mercenary fleets that are more expensive and whose costs increase by the amount of troops you wish to transport (further increased by distance and time at sea).Ī change like this could help limit the current abuse of rather large armies being able to easily navigate water without little need in investment or common sense in what would have been quite a logistical hurdle and expensive situation at the time (it should not be easy or cheap to ship 50,000 troops over long ocean or sea distances in medieval 867-1300 or the renaissance time period late in the game). In essence, it would work by limiting the amount of troops you can transport by water by requiring investments each time you wish to improve said infrastructure (with lower maintenance upkeep while unused).

Consider adding a simple naval infrastructure system, since a full blown naval rework is not wanted by most of the community (to avoid annoying micro).
